HP recently announced two new adapters–the first in the HP Ethernet
adapter family–based on the Mellanox ConnectX®-3 Pro 10GbE.  These adapters are optimized for fast, efficient and scalable cloud and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). The HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 546FLR-SFP+ and 546SFP+ Stand-up adapters for ProLiant Gen9 rack servers are specifically designed to optimize cloud efficiency, improve performance and security of applications.

The HP Ethernet 546 series adapters deliver 10Gb/s Ethernet performance for today’s applications as well as leading low latency for fast I/O operations for HP ProLiant rack family servers. They enable support for Overlay Network Acceleration with Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA)  over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) Technology.

These new series of adapters enable network virtualization at full wire speed allowing public and private cloud providers to deliver the benefits of network virtualization while maintaining bare metal speed and efficiency. This reduces the server CPU cycles normally spent on managing network I/O operations resulting in customers experiencing more efficient workload operations and higher VM density and management.

The HP Ethernet 546 series adapters include specific performance-enhancing technology to not only offload the network virtualization details from host CPUs, but speed up performance by lowering latency of operations with industry standard Ethernet protocols such as RoCE to communicate across the infrastructure (down to 1us latency with fully offloaded RDMA with kernel bypass).
